Right ... trainers. I do love 'em and I bought these last year from eBay.
I used to buy Adidas Superstars years ago from Argos because they sold a woman's size 9 and therefore I could buy more pastelly sneakers. The soles are much bouncier than I recall and I do believe that Sir Robbie Williams name checked them in his much derided 2006 hit 'Rudebox' in the line 'grab your shell toes and your fat laces, ... rock the three stripes, not the Asics.'
Williams failed to inform his audience that the tongues of Superstar sneakers are very stiff and therefore a pair of full length socks is preferable to the briefer trainer sock. Maybe this is one of the main reasons why the Rudebox album was such a flop and ended up being used as the base for a motorway?
As I student, I was the proud owner of some smart silver shoes from Office. I wore them with tight, silver trousers, a white and silver glitter tank top and a steel grey waistcoat. I also sprayed my hair silver. I was an ardent argent enthusiast.

ReplyDeleteNow that's one graduation ceremony I would have love to have witnessed. Professor Eric Hobswawn was at mine, he didn't even do a turn. Shame on him.
